HemisFair 1968
HemisFair '68, held April 6 through October 6, 1968, was the City of San Antonio's way to celebrate the 250th anniversary of its founding in 1718. The theme of this world's fair was "The Confluence of Civilizations in the Americas" to highlight the diverse nationalities that settled in the region.
Developed on 92.6 acres at the southeastern edge of downtown San Antonio, HemisFair '68 had participants from more than thirty nations and fifteen corporations. Over six million visitors came to HemisFair to enjoy a wide assortment of entertainment that included pavilions, exhibits, restaurants, bars, amusement rides, and attractions including the Tower of the Americas, a mini-monorail, a skyride, and a water show.
This collect of photos was taken during HemisFair '68 by Donald Orr of La Mirada, CA, and donated to SAGHS by his son, William Orr of Sacramento, CA.
